Amman, November 7 (Petra) – The Higher Presidential Committee for Church Affairs in Palestine called on churches worldwide to provide humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. The Committee issued an urgent appeal on Saturday calling for alleviating Palestinians' suffering amid widespread destruction caused by the Israeli aggression and a deteriorating humanitarian situation, as winter approaches and weather conditions worsen.
The Committee stated that the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate due to extensive destruction, mass displacement and severe shortages of basic necessities.
It noted that approximately 950,000 displaced people are currently sheltering in areas vulnerable to flooding, including more than 400,000 facing a high level of risk.
It added that around 270,000 tents housing displaced families have sustained significant damage from rainfall.
The Committee urged churches around the world to mobilise humanitarian and relief assistance for Gaza's population, including food, clean water, medicine, tents, winter clothing, safe heating equipment and other essential supplies, with priority given to children, infants, the elderly and the sick.
The Committee called for measures to protect churches, places of worship and religious and historical sites in Gaza, as well as for the provision of necessary assistance to repair the damage they have sustained.
It called for strengthening coordination with organisations operating in Palestine to ensure that aid reaches the families most severely affected and those in need. //Petra// AK
